Cattle/Sheep Clippers!!

100% honest I have no idea what I'm looking at when trying to buy clippers! I leave it all to my partner normally as im allergic to lanolin which is never the best situation! And I'm just on the crush gate when we do the calves

For Christmas I was looking to buy him new clippers as it's the only thing left I can get, I done a little research but want to know is it worth paying out for the dual battery and mains Clippers? I initially wanted portable battery as we have a small amount of animals we take to shows and it's growing so portable would be amazing for us! But at home we also need one and I'm thinking mains power might be better to sheer the sheep and the calves backs for when we wean?

The other thing is of only seen one with interchangeable heads for sheep/cattle/situation whatever but combes not a problem. Is this a problem? Or will one clipper clip them all (changing blades) and I generally know nothing?

I'm a very lost lady just trying to get a good Christmas present in a department I know nothing about please help!

For on farm use I'd get one that takes sheep shearing combs and cutters, sheep gear is far better for cattle clipping anyway in my experience. You can get cattle combs with more teeth for sheep shearing machines too if you want, not that I'd bother, may be useful for show clipping? I know very little about show clipping, and you didn't say what you are showing so I wouldn't want to comment too much on that one.

Changeable heads I reckon would just be a weakness, I'm keen to get the Welsh shearing ones mentioned by Bury the Trash and rhuvid for very small flock shearing and tailing, they look handy, I've used the rambo quickdraw (longhorn shearing) battery ones are good, well made but £££.

Good luck, (y) far more organised than me, still need to find something for Mrs R..... :scratchhead:

I have a set of Heiniger X-perience's, which are brilliant. Use them for clipping calves backs and tails to show clipping beef and dairy cows.
Never been a fan of battery clippers until I used a friend's Heiniger X-plorers today. Clipped 50+ of his milk cows (until his only battery died!) and was impressed, his Delta 3s were slightly more powerful but not a lot of difference.
Don't like using sheep combs on cows tbh, too rough for me. You can still do a good job on dirty cattle with cattle combs, some of the cows today had muck caked on the tails and the cattle head was still getting it off.
