Collings Bros gone

How did you acquire the land without debt?

My grandpa bought the farm in the 60’s and got it paid off as soon as he could. I’m fortunate I guess no debt but no enjoyment left in the job overall. I enjoy farming but not the ever increasing rules and regs.

We have also always stuck and been happy with the initial farm. Even when the adjoining farm came up for sale a few years back. Everyone said you’ll go in for it surely I was like why the hell would I?? What can I possibly gain from it except debt and stress.

I think it’s nice to hear of people who are happy with what they’ve got and obviously a nice work/leisure balance
there is a lot who just want more and more

Merlo UK also ruined their business at least in East Anglia. They took the franchise of small independents including BW Mack (who we bought several machines from) and Collings Bros and gave it to Thurlow Nunn Standen. TNS did absolutely nothing with it and dropped them for Manitou after a couple of years leaving their customers stranded. Mack’s had moved on to Claas by then and Collings Bros took Merlo back. Now Collings Bros have gone we’re left 40 miles from the nearest Merlo Dealer and 50 from the nearest Deutz.

As I alluded to above, the way these manufacturers treat their dealers is insane.

Yes, you’re 46 miles away and Cranworth Farm Services are 41. How are the patches being divvied up by Merlo or doesn’t it matter?

Ours is on 550hrs now so I’ll be in touch to keep it within warranty.
