Turbines can vary from 15 kw to 3 megawatt, generally speaking smaller ones tend to be owned privately up to 250 kw. Over this they are normally owned by PLC’s
How many units would a 1 mw produce per annum compared too a 500 mw AD plant and what would the initial investment have been in comparison

Yes, I am. I only became vaguely aware of the existance of alternatives to the basic export arrangement recently, but am yet to look too closely into it.

It does irk me a bit that I sell into the grid at ~5p, and when it clouds over I'm buying back at ~13p. It makes me wonder what the big 6 are doing for their 160% mark-up. :)

For a start, DNO has to supply the equipment for the local area , then National grid does there bit to balance things out. Of course the biggest issue is the difference in the cost of power at different times of day. Nobody really wants it on a sunny lunchtime, but a December, January foggy evening is when you get the best return for your money, but not a lot of good to us solar boys :)
