Dealing with depression - suicidal thoughts - Join the conversation (including helpline details)

I just want to thank everyone of you for the kind words and encouragement. I feel better now, sometimes stuff just get to much for me. I am glad I posted on here, seeing that there are people who care, even though I am basically a complete stranger. I will keep following this thread, I think it would do me good seeing how everyone else handles these same type of problems. I know I will be needing everyone of you again, but its nice to know I can come here, it definitely helps. Thanks again.

@MB Trac we are never more than a moment away, you wont need us on the good days but rest assured we are there so if you need to talk then we will listen. Take care and please do keep in touch. Nick

I know Chris Riddle at The Royal Cornwall Show and at RABI was keen to hear James Hosking speak in London and did all he could to promote his campaigning and positive help message

Hell, fire, and damnation!

Like the rest of our nation, I have been mesmerized by the hourly reportage of the fire in the high-rise tower block of West London. Once, involved in a house fire, I observed fire rip through the upper story of a council property like a blow-torch. Fortunately all the people involved, both residents and helpers, survived; even the family dog.

Following on from what we have all observed via our tv sets there will be a massive tidal wave of depression/anxiety by all those involved. The minds of survivors, first responders, and observers will all be stricken by that inner voice that demands of us "Why me? Did I do all that I could have? What should I have done differently? Etc, etc, etc?" Misdirected anger may also raise it's deceptive head!

The greatest help that should now be available to all of those involved is a listening and understanding ear.

Whatever is bugging you can be better alleviated by talking it through and slowly unbottling it.

Stay safe, stay well, and above all remember that you are not alone.

I'm backed right into a corner now.
Even my wife is telling me to go and see a doctor.
Why do you feel backed into a corner? There's nothing wrong with needing help sometimes. If you can do podcasts I'd recommend the "flintoff, savage and the pooing pong guy" from the bbc, one episode in particular where Freddy goes into quite a lot of detail in his battle with depression.

Hello Roy, you are never in a corner you can't get out of. I know the simple task of talking may feel like it won't make a difference but it does even if you simply write it down - get it out your system. If your farming then for sure your up to your neck in work and "too busy" but do try as it will help.

I believe that anxiety/depression is rather like being cast into a cold, dark, prison cell by an evil enemy and having the large secure door locked firmly against us. The ancients often referred to being cast into a pit.

In the darkness, we can see no way of escaping and we fear the unseen enemy and what they may do to us. If only there was a metal pipe running through our cell, we could perhaps communicate with others by using a tapping code, similar to Morse. If there are others; one may know the secret of unlocking the door and an other may have details of an escape plan, whilst an other can give us intimate information about our enemies weaknesses.

Better still, if only we could communicate by word of mouth over a hidden radio set.

You are not alone in anxiety/depression and there are many others near bye. Some hold the secrets to the lock and information about an escape map for overcoming your enemy.

Stay safe, stay well, and above all communicate.

I remember, many years ago, during a dark, cold and wet winter evening I collected our small daughter from school and we took a short walk with our dog. Huddled against the driving rain, I said "what a terrible day". Our daughter looked up at me and said "there is nothing wrong with the day daddy, it just happens to be raining!".

Just recently I ignored my own advice and found my self consuming a drink that contains aspartame and only yesterday I ate a most wonderfully tasty pork pie full o' wheat/gluten. Unlike my earlier married years I now know exactly what is causing the brain fog/fatigue, and potential anxiety/depression and can patiently wait for my system to process the toxins that I should have avoided.

Heading to the car dealership yesterday, for the wife's car to be serviced and have it's MOT, we received a call from a close friend to see if we could provide her and her husband with transport to hospital for an emergency appointment. We advised contacting a number of other drivers that we knew would gladly assist and said we would collect them from the hospital asap. With the car serviced and having passed it's MOT with flying colours, we quickly drove to the hospital just in time to pick them up as they exited the hospital doors. The news from the doctors was both bad and good! Our friend had been diagnosed with stage one cancer of the womb but the good news was that it is very treatable and many women are treated for it and recover to progress with a normal life, after undergoing an hysterectomy. If we think that a blow like that will knock anyone off their feet........... our friend recently lost her younger sister to motor neuron disease and prior to that had lost a daughter to cancer.

We took our friends to their home and had coffee and a long chat with them. Returning home afterwards we were just taking in all that we had learned when the phone rang and I answered it, only to learn from an other old friend that his lovely wife had passed away with cancer of the oesophagus only last Wednesday.

You may well wonder why I write this but if I stick to my own advice ( that I have also posted on here ) and avoid the dietary items that I full well know upset my psychological equilibrium, I will be better able to help and support others; or at least be able to be on hand as a supportive and effective listening ear.

Stay safe, stay well, and may you have every success in escaping the prison that is anxiety/depression.
