Hi

Some pictures of direct drilled crops. Rain fall approx 40 inches per year, dries out towards end of summer.

Winter Wheat ex spring Oats
Unfortunately i have no photo's of the paddock before drilling. Paddock was sown down with 150kg/ha DAP down the spout then followed with 200kg SOP 100kg MOP and 6kg Boron just after winter. At GS 31 250kg Urea and at GS 49/50 200 kg Urea. This gave 30kg/ha of P and 30kg/ha of N at sowing and at spring 40kg/ha of S and 50kg/ha of K.

Spring Oats ex Grass
Our agronomist thought we were crazy as we have limited herbicide options to kill grass weeds out of oats. But we managed. We did two sprays pre drilling one four weeks prior then another one on the day of drilling. We put down 250kg of cropzeal 16N which gave us 38kg of N, 20kg of P, 25kg of K, and 24kg of S, then followed with 100kg of Urea which equals about 46 units of N

Spring Barley ex Grass
Sown down with 300Kg of Crop Zeal 16N which gave us 46kg of N, 24 kg of P, 30kg of K, 29kg of S per ha, this was followed up with 120kg/ha of Urea (55 units)

Spring Oats in Tired Paddock
Been in pasture for about 10 years, was due to be regrassed, but we decided to put it in to oats. Looks like quite a good yield potential.

Spring Barley out of wheat stubble

Will post pics when i find them, paddocks were getting tired, and should have been put in to grass. The organic matter was very low, and would dry out over summer, with large cracks forming

Hi

Photo's back up

Swedes sown 600m above sea level. Had an olsen P of 9. Drilled with a mix of urea and DAP achieving 100kg units of N/kg and 60kg units of P/ha and broadcasted 50kg units of P/ha and 60kg units of S/ha in the form of superphosphate along with 5ton of lime/ha

Another block
Kale sown slightly closer to sea level. Drilled with DAP urea mix, slightly lower than above sowing rate, (just can't quite remember)

Here is the picture of the maize paddock that was in grapes up to two years ago that disappeared with the upgrade. This was cross drilled at 25kg/ha in mid March 2012, and this is the second cut for silage in early January 2013.Was about 60% white clover, 25% red clover and 15% Lotus Major/rye grass. Will be redrilled with rye grass again next month @ 15kg /ha.Location....not far from the Hamptondowns Motorsport Park.(Also Erewhon is an anagram of nowhere, actually quite apt for the location!)

Hi

Looks good, are you going to drill in to the existing pasture or to spray out and start again? Why are you re-drilling it, was it only a short rotation high sugar grass variety??

There are quite a few of those baker boot drills around, and doing a very good job

Whats happened to all the pictures, something wrong with Photobucket or what?Combineguy, I'm going to drill into the existing pasture.(Spraying out a good clover pasture is like drinking Speights at room temperature in Central Otago in February, ...its not going to happen!) The rye grass "failed" because of several things, the pasture ended up clover dominant, the rye grass seed was of unknown quality, being cut for silage before its properly established and the tough "North Waikato"summer probably took its toll,Next month , I'll drill it with "One 50" at 12-15kg/ha. :)

Pictures look good this end- excellent looking crops and lovely country....it's while since I read Erewhon, but iirr it's a story about a Utopian land beyond the mountains in NZ populated by people who had the most advanced technology, but rejected to live a simple life. A parable about the cross-slot?

Martian, all I'm getting here are pictures with a blue box with a question mark. Also many years ago on my OE, I lived near Dunstable while working in London , the magic roundabout in Hemel Hempstead was allways fun to drive through..

The magic roundabout is still there, tho' possibly not so much fun now...

I can't even get my camera working, so I'm impressed to see your pictures from upside down land. Will have a word with Clive who understands these things

@combineguy i'm guessing its your mx340 for sale at the moment? could it not run your cross slot or did you not like it? also in the rape drilling photo, how come you have been pulling out of the row so often, getting more fert or the tractor not being able to pull up there?
cheers

@codylanglands

What picture are you referring too? If the first one, Plant and Food were carrying out trials on the effect of P on brassicas. They were trying to build a P calculator.

The 340 I think is sold now. The Cross slot takes alot of power both hyd wise and traction wise. We wanted a vario gearbox as we are on hill country so got sick of gear changes and we were either going too slow or too fast and nothing in between. Also we needed better brakes when parked up ( fendt engages hyd trailer brake when park brake applied)

We also needed better weight distribution, and a vario box doesn't brake traction like a gearbox
