Morning all,
I have just converted my C04 to dutch universal openers and thought it may be of interest to a few of you (H Jackson, Soren etc). Went straight into over wintered stubble planting fuego spring beans yesterday and very pleased with the establishment. I endeavour to swap over to the 5 inch shares and get some spring barley in soon. The lovely thing with the conversion is that you lose none of the horshes versatility in min till or conventional systems. I will try and keep you updated with more photos as it grows. By the way Soren and Hedley, many thanks for your time and help, the only reason I went for dutch against the gen is I have a dealer to get spares only 4 miles away so if I lose a point Friday afternoon I don't have to stop til Tuesday for couriers!

did you have to spray the field at any time before you planted , is it normal to not have to sow a cover crop for winter ? we have to have a cover crop in before winter or you loose i think 5% of your sub

We're only els not hls. Unless I've missed something I haven't heard we must do a cover crop, only that we may do a light autumn cultivation (which we didn't) and must not post harvest spray until February. Just barley volunteers which I dessicated a fortnight ago. George

That sounds good George must admit I'll be using the 4inch GEN's for beans must get some inch one's for the covers amd future beans. How do the different size Dutch openers fit? I've had to use an oversized roll pin and double them up to avoid them shaking out on the stones.

The roll pins take some whacking to get in or out! I am using 1 inch and 5 inch paired rows. Regards george

Hello George. Off course I had rather seen your drill equipped with GEN openers but I can understand you when your dealer is so close. I have started to use DHL and they are really professionel and fast to do the deliveries - but as fast as driving 4 miles can they not compete.
I am glad you have found a solution and that you also can use your horsch drill for direct drilling and you have a drill that solves the hairpinning problem. This drill is very simple, solid and reliabel. It really works fine with this drill, and it shows that it is not always nescessary to buy new-paint-machinery on Agritechnica. Good luck and I look forward to follow your crops here.

Hello Jackson. I will recommend that you move the seed tubes to be mounted on the fertilizer channel in the middle on the opener, because very large bean seeds can block the side- channels in some situations. Soren
