Looking to hear from someone with an egg vending machine. I farm dairy and free range eggs 1 mile outside a town with 8000 population so maybe a option. Is it worth the hassle?what kind of volumes are people getting?

8,000 people?doesn't sound enough unless you are on a route to somewhere and have a place people can stop. I would try an honesty box first and see what you get. It will give you an idea of how many eggs you might sell.
Vending machines aren't cheap and you will need volume

8000 people is loads, I’ve sold machines to egg producers in a lot smaller towns! where are you based? I could put you in touch with some customers of mine close to you that would be happy to talk to you about them. Drop me your email address and I can send them over on Monday when I’m back in the office.

@Stuart Fresh Food Vending Interesting.

Please could you give the forum an idea of the base rate of hire cost and the incremental cost of maintenance per vend?
The services required to install the equipment?
It would also be interesting to understand an idea of the realative sucess of say, an 8,000 village verses a high traffic rat run village.

I’m affraid we only sell these locker style vending machines. The customer designs exactly what size of locker they would like, how many of each locker then I manufacture a machine bespoke to their needs. Maintenance costs are very low. First year we look after all parts and labour free of charge then a service contract of £350 per year going forward.
To install the machine you just need something to put it in, makes a better environment for your customer then a 240v 13amp plug socket, nothing fancy, dead easy!

It’s hard to give you exact figures as it depends on what you sell. On this case eggs then the longest payback on any machine laying eggs is 18 months, busiest and quickest was 6 months payback. Not bad return on investment!

Hope this helps

Would you like to run through those payback figures briefly in round numbers?

we run a honesty egg box , I have looked at a vending machine because the volume of eggs I sell I except to pay around £10,000 for a machine ,The way I look at it is the cost of the machine plus servicing compared to the looses I have from theft of egg. I need a fair bit of theft to cover the cost of the machine

Chap I buy my eggs from had an honesty box, it worked well for a couple of years while only reasobly local people used it. Losses increased a lot once people started to travel further, got to the stage when they either had to close, have someone there full time or a vending machine, they've had a machine for a couple of years now, from Stuart's description it sounds like one of his, it's always worked perfectly whenever I've used it.
