We dosed all our milking herd about 6 weeks ago after the dry summer, and noticed a good response in milk yeild on young cows and heifers, but now that cows are housed there are quite a few still coughing and some of them are pretty bad.
Any one else had any issues with lungworm or treatment this summer ?

If they are/were still out when you did them reinfection will be likely will it not?

Dectomax doesn't last eight weeks
They normally start coughing at seven weeks and then we hit them at eight so they have tried to fight infection themselves then we help them out
Second year heifers seem to pick up lungworms so we treat them Jul/Aug
Used to use huskvac second year but use pour on now
Years ago used the boluses which killed everything without building immunity and had real issues i young milking cows
It probably depends on the burden that is placed on them ,,using same fields

Don’t know about anyone else but the changeable weather, -2 one day 14 degrees a couple days later is a bit of stress on the beast aswell. Bad phnemonia weather aswell

I spoke to a animal health sales rep and he thinks the problem is for a couple of years we dosed all youngstock with Cydectin in the ear which he say's kills everything exept the beast its self, then they don't build up the same immunity themselves.
Interesting as for several years animal health sales reps were trying to sell it to us and we refused for exactly that reason!!!! We thought if it lasts all season then how does the animal get infected to then build up any immunity.
