Dont have children, so no idea if this is being rolled out here, so if you have children in school, are they getting their Fruit/Veg/Milk?

Mrs bg is a pre school teacher. One of her jobs is to organise the free milk. They have done it for a number of years. There is a very good take up.

That's great to hear kids are still getting milk at school. I have fond memories of this and hatching chicks in the classroom. I had thought that it just wasn't done now so that's pleasing to hear. I'm not sure any/many schools were doing it round here as my sister is at primary but hopefully I'm completely wrong.

I can only repeat what Mrs bg tells me. The pre school she works at has children from a Range of social backgrounds. Typical of small town middle England. If the children are staying for lunch they bring their own. What is really noticeable is what poor diets parents expect children to eat. This is not class specific the wealthy are just as bad as everyone else. If schemes like this can be used to educate and improve diets it has to be a good thing.

I would have thought the wealthy would be even worse, if you are on a tight budget you can only buy basic types of stuff, not the processed junk

I understand that obesity rates are higher among the poor due mainly to their poor diets that includes a lot of processed junk.
I suppose the cheapest end of processed food will have an even worse class of crap added to it
But there is no need to eat crap on a tight budget, spuds, veg and cheaper cuts of good quality meat isn't expensive

I know. I have just looked at the price of cheapest white potatoes and the cheapest frozen chips that Tesco do. The former is 52p/kg and the later 63p/kg. Which do you reckon the urban poor are more likely to choose?

Its not just about diet. Children spend a lot more time inside on computers, watching tv. Some parents think that this is ok because they know where their children are and that they are safe. Our son goes to a school which has 58 children. 15 of those children don't own a bike. There is a park in the village with a big grass area to play football, there is a children's part with swings, slide and a roundabout. None of the kids in the village use the park. The park get's used by the kids who live out of the village.

There needs to be a balance of diet and exercise
