Eu to cap subs at100,000 Euro.

When i was buying rams it was often the case that you bought the "man" that you knew had the right type of sheep and system for your needs
Exactly.

What's the point of taking a low ground tup and asking him to go up the Dalmally hill?

More to the point, who decided to start breeding Blackie tups out of their natural environment , and why?

( Yes, I know the answer is probably money. )

isn't the problem partly down to where these tups are bought i.e. from a sale or show sale rather than direct after a good look round the rest of the stock and on seeing what type of farm the tup has been reared on ?
I know folk could still tell a tale selling from home but it makes it more difficult doesn't it

To be honest, pretty much everybody knows already what kind of farm these tups come from - the Blackie world is a small and well known one - I'm not a Blackie breeder but even I know all the famous homes.

I think that the folk that want to buy a working tup off a genuine unit know where to go to and who to buy off, and the guys that want to follow the money will do just that anyway .

Free market free choice for all.

A tup bred on a hill at Dalmally and a tup bred in a green, low ground field in the Lothians are two entirely different things that are difficult to reconcile.

These hill traits won't long in being affected, but I'm afraid money corrupts the ideology of almost all commercially popular breeds.

I went up Nevis 3 weeks back... Driving up, and back home, brought back memories of the opinions I formed the first time I ever went up there:

The Blackies down here have it bloody easy compared. And, respectfully, alot of ground is being wasted carrying Blackies. (I exclude the likes of the Lowther hills in that comment). Many seem out of touch as to what a hard hill/farm is.

Some of the blackie tup lambs are never let out the shed and pumped full of feed. Then bought and expected to be put out on a hill. The buyers wonder when the tup melts. It's nowt but a racket

The job was ruined the moment the first hill decided to ET and AI ewes.

But, we had seen this carry on with their BFLs and should have known it was coming. My best friend bought a BFL from a flock close by who is big in both the BFL and Blackie world... he has been totally pee'd off having paid good money that this said 'Crossing' BFL is leaving 3/4 Blackie lambs instead of Scotch Mules

I'd say the Blackie guys have been "structuring " their market long before anyone up here even owned a Blue Leicester.

Past Masters at making money.
