External hard drive for tv

Need to get an external hard drive as changed the set top box and it doesn't have anything inbuilt.

Was thinking 2TB would suffice but don't really know what 2TB is when recording tv? It's mainly endless children's tv programs rather than films.

The outgoing sky box seems to get full within 2 months if that gives anybody an idea.

Is your Sky a HD or just standard box? The fancier HD boxes have 2TB storage, cant see what the others have on them though. So long as you arent recording HD programmes all the time I would think 1TB would be ample.

So skybox is going to make way for a different brand of box (y). The only downside to this new box is the lack of storage so I need to be able to set the box to record the entire series of Horrid Henry for example, so I can just go to it at any time and press play then the children are quiet for an hour (y)

Dad has an LG tv that takes a usb hard drive. Got him a 500gb one to record onto and he has a load of stuff on it and it says there is about 35hrs of HD or 90hrs of standard left so would think a 2Tb would be enough
