Had nice letter this am, after the blah about the benefits of VIP membership, I notice subscription is too be "amended" to £65.50 twice yearly.
Can anyone remember what it is currently, I can't immediately mind the details which are with accountant.

We paid £99 in November for 12 months and we also had a letter today saying our subscription would rise to £129/year.

We have had a subscription for a number of years, since I found a copy in the local shop, and find the paper a good read but I cannot get on with the website:banghead::banghead::mad::mad: there never seems to be the same choice of articles available so it is not easy to look at if away from home.

The letter we received today has certainly made us question whether to continue with, or cancel, the subscription in the autumn.

I enjoy the articles and rate it way higher than FW, better standard of journalism. I have a notion we have previously been paying £29-ish a quarter.
Mrs YB tells me we pay £27.25 a quarter, our last payment was in march so I expect we'll soon be getting the letter.

It is a shame to have top play silly games, but I am minded to cancel too.
There is always a better deal for returning to the fold.

Afternoon David,

I'm so pleased to hear you enjoy Farmers Guardian. The majority of our journalists are either farmers themselves or come from a farming background, so they do work really hard to produce great content for our readers.

As a business, we're currently going through the process of standardising our subscription tariffs. It’s been about three and a half years since we last re-priced any of our direct debit subscribers. Likewise, increasing print, postage and production costs as a publisher have also contributed to the change in price, and all are rising well ahead of inflation.

The new price quoted in your letter is now the absolute cheapest subscription rate available. You won't find a better deal by cancelling and re-subscribing, as we've already offered our members the best and cheapest rate possible within the letter.

This is still the equivalent of paying £2.48 per issue, compared to the £2.95 you'd pay in the shops. That's a huge saving of 47p per issue, and over £24 over the entire year.

Plus, you'll still receive all of the benefits mentioned within the letter, as well as free app access if you have a smartphone or tablet. Even if our package only included the paper, app, and access to our website for £134 per year, this is still £27.70 cheaper per year than an equivalent package with our competitors. Instead, you get all of this as well: https://www.fginsight.com/member/farmers-guardian-membership-benefits

Likewise, we are continually investing in the content and quality of our journalism, ensuring that you get even more value for money. There's also plenty more in the pipeline, so keep your eyes peeled.

Going forward, if you have any questions at all about your subscription, please don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected]

Best wishes,

Afternoon Jade,

£99 for the year is a very old rate, which probably means you've enjoyed Farmers Guardian on a really good rate for a few years!

As per the reasons I mentioned in my reply to David, we are now having to standardise our subscription tariffs. This means that £129 for the year on Direct Debit is the cheapest way of receiving your subscription.

If you're struggling with fginsight.com though, please don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected] and we can go through any queries you may have together.

I`ve jut checked my subscription, it was £7.28 per month.

It is being increased to £10.75.

If my arithmatic is correct this represents a 48% increase.

Subsription is now being cancelled.

Acorn.

Afternoon Acorn,

The rate you were previously paying seems like a very old rate (or a special rate we may have offered through a breeding society, for example). We haven't charged that for over three years, so you seem to have had a brilliant deal there!

As we've offered the best available subscription price within our letter, I can't do anything for you on price - but if you want to talk through any of your member benefits, I'd be more than happy to do so. Many of them are also featured in the letter we sent.

Likewise, if you have any other questions at all, please don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected].

I was on £99 per year by DD until this year. Got notice of a price hike to £129 and was going to cancel. Lambing got in the way though, and it never happened.

I know you will say it's cheaper than buying it in the newsagent, but it's a lot dearer than not buying it at all. IME you are in danger of pricing yourself out of circulation, with most of the 'news' freely available on the interweb. Some weeks, your paper never actually gets opened here these days.

Thank you for your reply,

Am going to have another look at the website to see what else is available, but so far, looking for the letter section and the Wignall cartoon have proved fruitless

I had the letter as well. Nothing against the paper at all. I have had it for many, many years but as @neilo says some weeks it doesn't even get taken out of the wrapper. I have loads of different farming magazines unopened now. It's just how things are nowadays. I gave up with farmers weekly a few years ago and this will be the last one with farmers guardian.

I enjoy some parts of the paper but only actually read 20% max (havent even looked at last weeks) I stop reading the articles about how a good living can be made off 15 cows and 50 sheep after i get to the part where he is an accountant and she works a harley street doctor. But probably we all need to diversify to be able to farm.

Hi Rebecca, subscribed members should have a better deal than you offer of 47p discount,as you have the opportunity to direct market them with the flyers you put in the wrapper with the paper
Which provides more income for the paper, also having the constant guarantee of sales, income and security this provides

Same here. There seems to be more of those recently too. Is it a sign of UK Ag becoming a part time industry?:(

Yes it's very annoying.
So we have to become hobby farmers to produce subsidised food for the masses? If farming doesn't pay no way will I do something else. If the crop doesn't cover itself in general then I'm not growing it!

Totally agree. I only subscribed because of the livestock adverts and most of the 'news' has been discussed at length on here for days if not weeks before the FG comes out. I don't get the FW anymore and although I do think the FG is a good read I'm not sure if I can justify the subscription under the current financial climate.
