BMI and therefore weight is is a pretty blunt measurement in reality 18 months ago my BMI was 25 with weight at 85kgs and body fat % of 25% i was not unfit (I could complete triathlons and was mountain biking every now and then but not regular exercise and my diet was whatever I wanted to eat and not ideal - I felt like age was creeping up on me however, lacked energy and didn't feel fit as I felt I should or used to be today i’m the same weight and BMI but my fat % is just 17-18 %. - this reflects regular gym, better diet and more cardio fitness - i’m much fitter today than i was 2 years ago yet my weight and BMI are no different. I make an hour a day for the gym, I'm busy but you can always make time if you really want to, doing so has made a massive difference to how I feel, my energy levels, my mental health, my sleep and pretty much every aspect of life, the hours spent in the gym is more than paid back in how much more I get done when I do work and how much more energy I have means a longer day. I started off not wanting to go to the gym if honest but now if I miss it I feel out of sorts almost instantly, exercise is addictive ! Food is a massive part of all this, I never ate breakfast until 2 years ago, just coffee, I often skipped lunch when busy and then ate a lot of carbohydrates later in the day as I felt hungry, my total Kcal intake was not massive but its was often all the wrong macros. I now eat breakfast religiously each day and make sure I get at least 80g of protein before lunch and 150-180g per day total. I don't restrict Kcal but don't need to, when your Kcal intake is made up of mostly good Kcal's vs empty ones its actually hard to eat enough each day ! I only drink socially and won't touch fast or junk food anymore I see both as drugs now that maybe can be enjoyed VERY occasionally but are not something I crave. I gave up tea and Coffee for a while and the effect was notable, caffeine is a drug ...... I did decide I missed coffee however so drink it again now but only before lunchtime any later and it affects sleep If I looked at weight and BMI alone nothing has changed but in reality the change is massive to my body composition and health - if you want a marker body fat % / lean mass % s the best metric to use, it truly reflects the state of your body, diet and exercise
