Future implications if you let someone access your land for mains water

If wanting an easement, when it has been clearly stated that there won't be one, it is arrogant and damned stupid to then behave badly.

My dear sweet neighbour thought he could bully and harass me when I told him there would be no connection for services (for the tenth time) from my land. It did not help his cause when I came home to find him conducting a party of clip board carrying officials on a tour of my land with the explanation, when challenged, "I was just showing them around". Yes, a good idea to do it when I'm out but not such a good idea to still be there when I come home!

In the future, my knee jerk reaction is to give an emphatic "NO!", regardless of the request. Of course, I then get my guns seized in retaliation, but you've all heard that story before.

Rant over!

Back in the early 70s a nieghbour came to ask if he could take a line from his borehole threw our field to his field, roughly 500yards. My grandfather granted them access but only if we could have use of the water. So a tank was installed giving stock access to it from both field sides. The field was arable then. 8 years ago it was grassed down, that summer our sheep were helping themselves to his tank when oneday the tank went dry. Popped to see the nieghbour, (who is now the son) I was greeted with an irate bollarding about our sheep stealing his water, he was so upset he'd turned it off and told me to "get my own fudging water" Clearly unaware of the situation, I told him to have a look at his rent agreement with the council.
He came and apologised a few days later and he turned it back on.

Get the situation set up properly and in writing, you never know what will happen in the future.

Wanted water main laid to my property, contractors to the water company wanted £12,000 to run it 200m up the lane, found I already had a 25mm pipe running past my property to a neighbour, he let me tap into it, got a local plumber to put in a connection, he charged me £20 & had to run him to the local village pub afterwards!!!!
The cheeky sod!! Mind you this was around ten years ago god knows how much he would charge me now.... probably about £25 phewww!!!!
