Galloway, highland, shetland, dexters, white park etc. I have seen any been sold in a mart before, how well do they compare in terms of price . For example a 600kg galloway cow vs a 600kg limousin cow. Is the price that noticeable? (Im thinking of buying some for rough heather ground).

You will usually pay less for them because they aint fashionable, but with the new schemes ones with papers have increased in value, once the hide is off at the end then they pay just as well and cost less to keep, just sold a 12 year old blue grey cow dead weight and she came to £650 only paid £360 for her as an in calf heifer and she has had 11 calves :)

They tend to go a bit (or a LOT) cheaper at auction here. Buyers for feedlots don't want them because they don't mature as quick or as large as the bigger beef breeds. Sold privately you have a much better chance of a good price but that can be a niche market.

Just as an example I just sold two Dexter heifers a couple of weeks ago. Averaged 450 lbs each, got .68 a pound. Sold my 1005 lb yearling Angus steer, got $2.12 a pound. Seen a 430 lb Simmental steer go through for $3.37 a pound.

I'd go with the Galloway's or Parks if I were you. They grow slower but at least mature at a close size to the big breeds. Dexters and Highlands can't compare in mature size at all so they get docked even more in cost.
