Horn up dehorner

I've got 150 calves to do and quite fancy one of these. Only a 7sec burn and no digging horn stubs out.

When they first appeared a few years back I seem to remember they were £6/700 but Mole Valley have them now for £220.

Has anyone got one?

Yes and it's an awful pain. I got one because like you it seemed handy. What it doesn't tell u is that even though it's a short burn the stupid thing cuts out after about 5/6 "burns" and takes about 3 mins to come back again. Must be something to do with stopping it overheating. I'm lookin at goin back to the gas cause it's such a nuisance

They are rubbish. They cut out too often, and the end breaks really easy if you press on too hard.

We have one too and have the same opinion!
Its great if you have 2 calves to do........brilliant. There is a knack to using it, but it does work well once you understand.

The moment you have a row of 20 calves to do, we get the gas out. To much faffing with it timed out or the battery gone flat as somebody forgot to charge it fully.......then calves starting to wake from anaesthetic as you haven't got to them as quick as you should have done.

Buy a nice gas set.

I have one and really like it. It suits how we use it. We tag, castrate, de- horn as soon as possible once there 24hours old, so not usually too many to do at once and their in seperate pens so I suppose as it has time to cool between pens we don't have a problem with it cutting out. We are now in our second year ( did 89 last year, 77 so far this year) no had any problems yet.

I just bought a horn'up in June at the Royal Cornwall show. The guy told me they improved their product, the one I have goes up to 80calves and I didn't get the security thing that guys were mentioning.
I was using the hornex so doing them young doesn't bother me. I've done about 100 calves so far and haven't got any regrow so far.
Fairly happy with it, shall see if it in the long run..
