Horsch CO8 conversion.

Has anyone fitted a CO out with multi grip legs?

I'm keen to replace duets with Bourgault/Dutch Ind coulters. Do you think the standard classics (or what ever you call them) would have enough trip force to run these?

I have 7" Bourgault coulters on my CO6. The trip force is not enough for direct drilling on clay with classic legs. But drilling in cultivated land works fine.
For direct drilling I would go for narrow points.

Would it have enough trip force with Metcalf or Bourgault 1" openers? Have you changed the flippers on your classic legs to tighten them up and stop the wandering?

Still can't help thinking that it would be far cheaper to change the legs than the drill?

We fitted Dutch industries 1 inch and 5 inch points with leg conversion last autumn. Positives are that we were moving far less soil and using less horsepower. The five inch for some reason did not create a band like the large duets it replaced and the seed came up like it was drilled with an accord conventional drill. The negatives we found are that the ground needs to be be more level and because there is no flat base plate like the duet depth can be inconsistent in varying soil types across a field. The other problem we found when the conditions started to get damp soil would wedge between the coulter and leg and block the seed. We have carried out few mods with carbide strips and weld to hopefully counter this next autumn.
The coulters are designed for direct seeding on Canadian no till so we think they are used best where the ground is least disturbed. Going to try on a few direct drilling situations this Autumn, but have kept the duets just in case.

Forgot to say, the sprinter legs have more trip force than the co's. I would not recommend the Dutch points on the co system if on amiable soil types.
