So spoke to the nfu and tried to get the apprentice insured on farm van but due to his recent claim which involved someone else and an injury claim from the other party involved aswell they won't insure him on our motor viechle policy. Where do i go from here? Not really my problem as far as i can see?

I forget, how's he getting to work at the moment?
What if anything does his contract say about traveling between sites?
One of the hazards of employing kids I suppose.

what problem ? You tried, and failed, and it was the lads fault.

mate had a phone call, from a young lad that worked for him, sorry, can't come in today, ill.

fine, but mate took his mrs out to Lyme Regis, for a trip out, and who should he meet down there ?

now mate, had bought a car for him, and sorted out the insurance through the farm insurance, which he immediately cancelled, couldn't do much about the car, but lad had nearly repaid that.

lad rung mates son, and was told, job over, and his car was no longer insured, lad couldn't see he had done anything wrong.

Hopefully..... a lesson was learned by the Lad, but probably not. Another self entitled Gen Z'er....

They might think that their expectations should be met, but often, reality might beg to differ when an employer comes up against the Gen Z attitude problem!!

From BBC article.

But increasingly, Generation Z workers like Holleman – those born between 1997 and 2012 – are insisting we write a new script for work. Having observed older workers experience burnout, time poverty and economic insecurity at the grindstone, they’re demanding more from workplaces: bigger pay cheques, more time off, the flexibility to work remotely and greater social and environmental responsibility. Many of these values were millennial preferences, but for Gen Zers, they’ve become expectations – and they’re willing to walk away from employers if their needs aren’t met.

As a result of their war on work, Gen Zers have been dubbed entitled or anti-capitalist. Yet they’re not; Gen Zers want it all – and are willing to work hard for the right employer. But if the juice isn’t worth the squeeze, they’ll leave and find other ways to make ends meet. Many have argued they’re simply a generation responding to the social movements of their time, and using lessons hard won by older workers to inform their career choices. And some even think the youngest in the labour force have potential to bring meaningful change to the workplace along the way.

sums it up.

schools have taught kids they can achieve anything, they are the best, go to uni, get your degree, and a top job will follow.

unfortunately, the school of life, doesn't work like that, you have bills to pay, to pay them, you need to work, and if a job isn't to your liking, you find another, because you have those bills to pay.

what they fail to understand, is the world doesn't owe them a living, they have to earn it.

l grew up in the hippie age, free love etc, some of my peer group then went on to be teachers, and that hippie culture, was passed on, to a degree, worse, some went on to teach future teachers, so the liberal attitudes continued.

probably started to trail off now, age and pensions have seen to that.

all one can hope, is the young teachers coming in, or in training, have a different view of how life really works, l think they are doing that. Their big problem is deciding on how to address their pupils, its no longer girls and boys, there's a host of various sex names now. Wokeism has become both stupid and dangerous.

Cause for dismissal.
Same as anyone needing to drive for a job and receiving a driving ban?

No good to you.
And NFU probably don't want him driving your tractors either.

Suggest to him he gets a moped, and you will reconsider the van thing in six months time so long as his dad stays away.
With the added benefit of learning roadcraft, as only a motorcycle rider can ... (y)

Last scooter here was used by my daughter and then my son. Sold it at a knockdown price to enable a young lad* to keep his position as an apprentice on a dairy farm, as the 5-6 mile bicycle ride twice a day was a struggle.
