Hello.
I am a very new member and have recently posted an item about trading on the London Mark Lane Corn Exchange in the mid 60's.
While not directly involved at the 'sharp end' of farming, I was for over forty years involved in the buying/selling of proteins and oilseed crushing with Bunge, J Bibby & Sons, Croda, Beoco & Cargill. In the mid 70's I travelled the length of the U.K. In concert with Kenneth Wilson ( Leeds ) to encourage farmers to grow oilseed rape. Not an entirely altruistic undertaking as we ( Bibby ) wanted to procure & crush the seed. We also purchased from Sweden, Canada & even France. The Nixon ban on the export of US soybeans in 1973/4 ignited the drive in Europe to become self sufficient in oilseeds. No longer would we be dependent on the USA ! Now look at the golden fields of OSR.
