John Deere parallel tracking

I've been toying with the idea of manual gps on and off alot over the past year, with all sorts of systems suggested by folk who sell them, and fair play they are all keen on price and offer on the face of it, non bias advice. Having browsed at John deeres systems, their parallel tracking package seems to fit my bill, something to start with that could be upgraded, but terrain control comes as standard for the basic package. My John Deere dealer is local, so back up is close. From reading online I assume the basic parallel tracking package includes the original brown box screen, as per the online literature as the price of the other two would by sense make JD's system a tad overpriced as opposed to other systems. I also see a lot of used JD ams for sale online at not too bad money, would any of that be a worthwhile punt? They aren't complicated computers as compared to a laptop with Microsoft, so I can't see any reliability issues with a used purchase. Have any of you experience with this equipment? Are JD too expensive for what I think I need?

What's your budget? I know you didnt mention it but I went down the trimble route after a lot of reading. Some keen prices on new 250's at the moment, they are upgradeable and a strong resale value it was a no brainer for me.

Your not far, if you want to have a go before buying your welcome to have a go on mine.

Thanks, budget would be in line with whatever other systems of similar spec, so probably around the £1500 mark, but saw a brown box and receiver used for £750, me thinking a harness, bracket and taking the software was standard for parallel tracking not being too "Deere" I'd have me a cheap but ok system. My cousin in Rowen bought a £300 one off tractor GPS, he was spreading fert next door and it seemed to do the trick, but not sure how it would behave with a sprayer without terrain control. Basically with JD I could buy bits here and there and plug and play. That's what I'd like to think anyway, as there seems to be plenty of it floating about the Internet.
