Meet ********* The anoying sheep redeemed

This is a hebridean runt lamb from 2014, who lost a lamb last year, and has never gone because she tends to live on nothing but air and never finishes, she weighed 37kg today. Oh and she always escapes and isnt shy of charging me.

Yesterday she gave birth to Suff x twin lambs, both just over 3.6kg (7.4kg total).

Shes milking well..... Now if these two go on to a decent weight in a decent time..... It may throw my plans to scale back the smaller ewes..... efficiency and all that...

Ha. I' more impressed she carried 20% of her body weigt as lambs ! That is a feat on its own!
Pretty efficient alright. I had a similar weedy runt of a store with a bung leg that refused to grow.. spat out a lamb that was heavier than it's mum at 4 months old.
Lamb went away with its mother and they both appeared as prime lambs on the sheet (y)(y) twins!!

A similar thing happened here when I took on my small herd of British Whites. Admittedly they were old and with hindsight they were clearing them out and I was naive.

8 were pedigree (6 cows and 2 heifers) but there were 2 small non pedigree cows that looked like they had been stunted due to maybe being bulled too early as heifers and not fed enough. They put them in the lorry at a big discount to make up a load. In the two years that we ran that herd, the 8 pedigree cows had all sorts of problems and produced 7 calves that weren't particularly good growers while the 2 small cows got in calf easily and produced a total of 4 lively calves over the two years, calved easily, that were away fat as Bulls at just over a year old.

I'd rather have had a whole herd of those small lively cows than big dopey pedigrees any time. Cost half the price and produced twice as much.

Lesson learned.
