Metcalfe farms open day

Yep. A consultant

Well I've seen farms (admittedly 20 years back) that Westerners took over and it was always the distribution or lack of it and the corruption that killed the enterprises not the agronomy ; Romania, Hungary and Ukraine to be fair
The amount of eastern European trucks on the road now they should have no problem with distribution, even get Romanian trucks up here admittedly lost mind you

Didn't go to this open day but went to on last year with Young Farmers, there was only around 100 of us i think and one of the brothers showed us round, think it was maybe Richard, the one in charge of the cows?

The place is a credit to them, no doubt they have taken big risks and a lot of hard work to get where they are, it certainly isn't OCD, its attention to detail, and that is what has got them to where they are today, we could all learn a lot from them.

There are three Metcalfe brothers
David the eldest he looks after growing crops . Then Brian who oversees the haulage Philip the youngest is in charge of the cows.
Davids son Richard runs the contracting, Brians son Thomas is helping his Dad but all of them know whats happening in other sides of the business .
David ran the Russian farms. A Russian company bought them out
i know all 3 brothers they have built the business by getting their hands dirty by actually milking cows and driving tractors ect themselves. They have an eye for detail and are not afraid to have a go

Ah yes it was Philip, really nice bloke, after he showed the whole group round about 10 of us were still asking him questions about cows mainly, he took us to his calving set up and where they do there calving records, all immaculate, but the last one in there hadn't fully completed the form that is filled out after every calving, and hadn't put a couple of boxes away. He said he will be having a word on Monday about it, said all very calmly and politely I'm sure, but diffenatly a tight ship where nothing will go unnoticed by him.
