Sort of whitewash, 1/2 hydrated lime and 1/2 Snowcrete. The building are in line to be re-done this summer, they were last done in 2006, so have lasted well.

Here's a better photo of them, they're 15 ft wide, when I can't get through that width of gate I'll quit.

I don't feel to bad now, I started around the same time doing a bit of ground work before I could put up the gates, started making the gate below in the Autumn. I was in no rush to finish it as I was looking for suitable gate posts and only got them a few weeks ago. I must get back at it now again, I have another 16ft gate and two 8ft gates to make

Not too bad here, we're 1/2 a mile from the main road.

That's alright as long as you're the only one going through them, we had two 14ft gates at the entrance but an artic driver still managed to destroy one of the posts.

I am with @Tha Ulsterscot on this one - I would like to live somewhere I am proud of and penalise numpties that don't respect it rather than design it down to their level.

Any Artic driver who can get round the 90 degree bend 1/2 way down our lane will have no trouble getting through a 15 ft wide gate.
