Always keep Alamycin LA as good all rounder when cattle are in for things like foul of foot or silage eye.
But always get a nasty swelling were jabbed.

Are the dearer Oxytet's better with less swelling ? and which would you recommend.

its the oil? that makes it long acting that causes the swelling

i would never use LA to jab an eye
I always use LA for an eye, so 1 jag does and no need to repeat. I'd rather a swollen eye than being jagged in it every day. I mix it half and half with dexadresson, does a treat.

Oxytetracycline is unusual in that it lasts longer the more concentrated it is, and LA is just a more concentrated version of the daily version.

I use Engemycin LA here and haven't had any swellings when used IM unless it's been done quickly in a pen and there hasn't been time to massage it or too short a needle has been used. The norm would just a little bump at the injection site.

If you're giving a cow 40mls of Alamycin LA it should be 20mls in each of 2 sites, so I'm told.
I'd a bull with a sore eye last summer, was told on here to squirt some on his eye with a syringe just. Seemed to work.

The problem is that it washes out quite quickly with the tears and in a stubborn case it could have to be repeated multiple times daily. An injection into the eyelid will last for up to 10 days, which is the same as up to 20+ visits to the crush.
