The farms I’ve been involved in are getting better longevity now than the past decade or two. Far less forced culling.

If you are going to go down the path of a “poor cow” being culled before 5 I would be careful. The animal rights types that are becoming larger by the day don’t see the diffence in culling a 5 year old cow or a 12 year old cow.

Cows becoming more productive due to management and breeding is definitely the goal. We need to be moving forward for profitability and sustainability reasons. If this is an issue for you it is not going to go the otherway so it may be something to think about.
I certainly can't disagree with any of your points but a continued drive for more production and more numbers simply drives the price of milk downwards. It's abit of a rat race
