Can you not set the sides in at the bottom to fit any plastic foot bath?

Totally agree on the Poldenvale stuff. Mine is all ancient, mostly having come from a farm dispersal sale 20 odd years ago. It's still stronger that any new stuff I've seen available.

I only ever have mine set up to run through formalin, rather than standing in. I just have an 18" wide X 8' long plastic one. Can't remember if it's a JFC or a Paxton, both much the same I think.

I use a sheeted Poldenvale hurdle on either side.:)

Agree about it being good stuff. Got a Poldenvale calf dehorning crate here that will 30 years old too. Must have had around 4000 calves through it and still works fine.
Far better design than any of the ones you see nowadays too.
Basically a one side fixed one side squeeze crush design.

What happened to them? Did they go bust or get taken over by somebody else?

The website hasn't been updated in a few years, but it all seems to be working

I seem to remember they were bought out by someone, who started making things more cheaply, and disappeared within a few years.

Older Poldenvale stuff was built to last, later stuff was on a par with everyone else's but at a premium price iirc.

where does anyone source 9ft lengths of zinc profile to re sheet the poldenvale hurdles. ours was new in 1980 and could do with some TLC.
years ago, my father would stack all the hurdles in the back of vw caddy pickup (the really good one based on the mk1 golf) and move them between fields, it felt like you had done a days work before you even got the sheep in the pens.

Podenvale still achieve remarkable prices in farm sales. Unsurprising really when the railed hurdles in particular appear to have an infinite working life and will outlast a lot of new stuff!

Can't beat poldenvale for permanent sheep yards ,will outlast anything, only problem we found was the early ones have a design fault being the top rail....in that anything that try's to jump them will result in a broken leg......more modern ones sorted that problem .
