Why do people write letters to newspapers ? Too much time on their hands or just like to show how clever they *think) they are, at least on forums a discussion can take place

There's a whole industry publishing books containing the unpublished letters sent in to the Daily Telegraph - quite amazing how many nutters are about (or maybe a few that just write a stack of letters)

We have one in our village that writes to our local wiltshire times very regularly, total nonsense most of the time, its one of the reasons I dont want to retire is that too much time is not good

A friend's Mrs is at editorial level in a broadsheet, they have some absolute classics framed on the walls - but they are only put up once the writer's 'bona fides' have been established. (Not meaning whether or not the writer is potty, but that it is a real person who writes, genuinely, on their own behalf.)

As a related aside, I've seen some absolute classics sent to Judges in various highly publicised cases; the best / funniest ones tend to offer special evidential insights... from 'the other side'. 😐
