I haven’t seen any around near here that still need lifting. Then again I don’t get out muchFew folk lifting up here this weekend again, much to go down south yet or is it still too wet?
Not looking hard enough; 5-10% of fenland crop estimated to still be in the groundI haven’t seen any around near here that still need lifting. Then again I don’t get out much
They must be more your way Chris where the land is heavier? Good to hear Markies price, they must be very short this year? Btw Lee’s don’t appear to be bagging anything near us, just bulkers atm.Not looking hard enough; 5-10% of fenland crop estimated to still be in the ground
Offered £540/t for Markies in Jumbos this week, 25kg bags have got to be in the £550/t region this week I would say.
Dont know which species you are talking about but the main pest species in the UK belong to the genus Agriotes and the life cycle is assumed to be 5 years, data from Austria indicates it is less than that. They grow faster in warm soil, so we may be down to 3 years for some species in the warmest parts of the UK. For the non Agriotes, the details of the life cycle is pretty thin, Athous are known to be in Kent for some reason, there are others but the vast majority of larvae I see damaging crops are Agriotes. And that comment is valid for the whole of N Europe, also a problem in Canada.Five white stubbles without a blade of grass weed.
Wireworms have a seven year life cycle so a very difficult pest. No effective seed dressing for 100% control in cereals effectivily makes them a protected species. Like flea beetle, blackgrass & badgers.
Depends when the grass is killed and ploughed down. Most comments on this are using very old data from WWII but if you glyphosate grass off in autumn and plant spuds in spring, its unlikely they grass will be feeding them.I thought that often the second year was the worst as no sod left for them to eat?
Bother is tho, if you are breaking in old grass for someone the chances are it’s got sheep on it till April any way.Depends when the grass is killed and ploughed down. Prices seem a bit stagnant here at the moment with resistance to increases. Probably because it's so wet and people are thinking that they may as well grade some potatoes instead. Hopefully it may pick up when people get back on the land.Prices still on the rise? How much are Sagittaand Agria now pls?
