Ransomes 300 series

Have chance of this ransomes 300 series plough. Just going to use it in local matches don't need nothing fancy. Has anyone experience with one if so are they ok and make a tidy job and can you get disc's for this model.

Possible the worst plough ransomes ever made, don't think you can put front disc's on to them think it was last plough they made, never seen one make a decent job.:(

That plough was the straw that 'broke Ransomes back'. Big headstock problems on most used round here - mainly the 2 handled front furrow/alignment arrangement and turnover ram bottom attachment. This plough's era coincided with the taking off of the use of furrow presses and it just wasn't engineered strong enough to cope(especially the 5 furrow models as these were basically 3f+1+1).
Having said that, the plough in your pic looks like it has been well looked after/done little work for it's age and being a 3f has probably not had too much power hung on the front of it. The skimmer brackets have the modified brackets (early ones snapped off when it was hard)
IIRC you could get discs all round.
Check the headstock for 'jollop' and see if you can wind both alignment handles at the same time(with no tractor attached) if you can't, leave it alone. If you can, it may be worth a punt - but don't pay too much for it.
Looks like it was originally sold by Harris's - so that dates it a bit.
Good luck -you might need it.

Looks tidy plough to me as I have one the same standing in the shed which came off a small farm near to me , all the discs and skimmers came in a pile and not on the plough but looking at your picture notice how the front skimmer stalk is facing to the rear and the other two facing forward , the front skimmer looks to be in the right place directly over the point . Also look between the front skimmer stalk and the Head stock you will see two raised bolts on the box frame that is where the front disc stalks fasten both sides and although all the discs i have are in a pile i am certain the front discs are different fixings to the others as the front disc mounting point is not far enough forward from the point something Dowdeswell later done by moving the frame further back from the head stock in order to mount the front disc
