Some UK Farmers have realised the need for honesty and clarity about the production of the Meat and the methods of Slaughter used and this includes as to whether any Religious Slaughter methods (Pre-Stunned or not) were used. I use a company called Lamb2Ewe simply because of their honesty and openess. https://lamb2ewe.co.uk They clearly advertise all the essential information on their website including whether Religious Slaughter was used (which they clearly do not use). They added that information after consultations with consumers as they were initially reluctant to disclose on their web site because they didn't want to be labelled. They saw demand was there and tapped into that market so now consumers can have quality Lamb/Beef & Poultry without Religious Slaughter methodology, full traceabilty and accountability which is what consumers wanted. Their business is starting to thrive and they are expanding (into Beef & Poultry) with Animal Welfare first and foremost, followed by quality and locality. You can speak with them this weekend as they are at the Honley Show 8 Jun 2019: https://honleyshow.co.uk/ Then businesses such as buyacow.uk also added the details of the fact no Religious Slaughter has been conducted (whether Pre-Stunned or not). But the question has to be asked why are many meat retailers afraid of informing their customers of the information they need as a consumer. Those who don't want to discuss questions or provide answers very usually have something to hide and this is where the trust issue comes into play. Loss of trust in the industry is a massive key factor affecting many Farmers/Butchers/Retailers and even Restaurants etc. This results in loss of revenue and cause long term affects to demands for good quality products. But when abttoirs become Religiously Certified there is no differentiating between what is Religious Slaughtered and what isn't. The approval Code is the same. The only difference is the segregation post slaughter where businesses lawfully and legally can simply tell consumers it is not Halal or Kosher when they want to pass it of to consumers not of those religions. What cannot and does not change is the method of slaughter used and whether it was conducted to meet the needs of Religious Slaughter. Many abattoirs conduct a single method of slaughter because they can't afford separate Slaughter Lines or time spent with intense washdowns and steralisation processes so they process Slaughter to the same standard, the same standard that allows them to sell Religious Slaughtered Meat to consumers who want a certificate pure and simple. People need honesty and clarity which labelling should allow consumers to have an informed choice.
