Spraying in the winter - is it necessary

dad has been having an affair with his sprayer for as long as we can recall.

We have a 36 m sprayer, growing cereals, beans, OSR and sometimes peas and linseed.

It seems everyone else is able to spray twice the amount of acerage with a machine the same size.

He still seems to be spraying day and night, every day of the year which is causing frictional as mud is left everywhere all the time.

Question is do most farmer's need to spend the hours he does or do you drain the tank down and park it up in the shed for Dec / Jan!?

Obviously depends on acreage. I'm spraying 1200 acres of cereals and OSR with a Bateman RB25 24m. Parked her up mid November, will be out again mid Feb weather dependant.

We are 1700ha with a 36m machine and there isn't many weeks it isn't doing something but 1000-1200hrs a year it's done a lot in December due to it being mild and drilling late . But hold off on kerb till later etc so often December/Jan but it's already on so when back in new year got glyphosate to go on covers and ploughing.
