Spring cereal costs.

Growing as a speculative crop, but what are the average variable costs per Hectare/acre for spring barley or spring wheat? If the costs don't work then the land will be fallowed. My apologies if this thread has been created before.

Last year's spring barley variable costs here were £280/ha based on £52/ha farm saved seed, £116/ha nitrogen (140 kg N) & sulphur. The rest was on sprays. No P or K in that but add £60/ha on top to cover offtake. Yield? 6.5 t/ha at £115/t for malting Nov 16 = £748/ha output. Subtract £350/ha (280 + 60) VCs and £160/ha for establishment/application/harvesting operations leaves you £248/ha for profit and other fixed costs (drying, storage, rent etc).
