Sunday Lunch

A lovely Sunday roast of Red Devon beef........name of "Champ."
Champ was born within 100 metres of the table he is being eaten at. At 3 days old his mother a heifer bought in 3 months previous was taken as my only ever (touch wood)TB reactor, he was reared on bottle as a one off by my 12 y.o. daughter, that's where the name came from. At about 20 months he was killed in the back field, hung in chiller for between 3 and 4 weeks all within 100 metres (thanks due to a certain Aussie TFF posting an excellent home kill video) of the kitchen table, the same kitchen table he was jointed and bagged on.
Three parts of the way through our Sunday lunch when family were agreeing and telling mum what a fine lunch they were having, I had to say "good ol Champ." Daughter" rose to bait" and declared she was not eating anymore dinner; we had a lively five minutes on ethics and basic values etc and finished up with clean plates alround before the blackberry and apple crumble and custard.

Always try to have a roast on Sunday's usually around 5pm. Had a lovely piece of British silverside last wk, cooked in wine. Had roasted British lamb shoulder yesterday, it was awful. Couldn't find a piece of meat in it.Both bits were from sainsburys.
I used to love roasts as a child, my 3 are not so keen. They love the yorkshires but very hard to get them to eat the rest.
Go to a butchers or farm shop if you can @Sonoftheheir, usually a lot better quality than the supermarket or pm me and I will post you some :)

Roast silverside (home grown) with roast potatoes and veg last night:cool: Girls cooked veg etc while I finished milking. They are getting really good at this cooking lark now even the middle daughter who, since she working part time at a local pub as waitress and washer up, has found an interest in cooking(y)(y)
