There was a motoring programme on the telly which concentrated on how cars were made for young people, small gauges, small hard to read symbols etc.. At the end, they said they had asked DVLA who was the oldest person with a driving licence in UK. It was a 94 year old who they found had a Fiesta Pop. and used it every day to go to work.
At the moment, I have a plasterer and general builder working in my parents house. He works Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Wednesday he and Mrs has a day out, and Friday they do the weeks shopping. Weekends he does odd jobs for family and friends and keeps his vegetable garden in any spare moment. He was 82 last week.

My faith in human nature has been restored this week. i popped up the road to see if a chap who had issues with a car trailer needed help the other day. I ended up loading it onto another trailer with the forklift a job that took 10 mins max. Without any prompting on my part he pulled £20 out of his wallet as a thankyou. Ive also had a couple of chaps cutting bushes in one of my dales this week (stewardship jobs) Ive never seen anyone work as willingly as they have at a quite unpleasant job:)

I sacked all of my PAYE workers last week as I was sick of dealing with the crap that comes with being an employer.

Best thing I ever did. No sick pay, no holiday pay, no 13.5% NI contribution, no paternity/maternity pay, no phone calls at 0700 oa Monday because 'little Johnny' is sick so I can come to work, no more kit broken by the 'mystery' member of staff.

The problem with society today is that half of them are on the dole and the other half are working the system so much that businesses can't ever make any money. This is why we're still in the doldrums.

Wait untill the next Financial Year in April, it gets worse.

Depending how long they have worked for you, you may get claims, especially if you "replace" them with sub-contractors or "self-employed". HMRC are looking closely at the employment status of sub-contractors and self-employed and you could still find yourself liable for PAYE & NI etc.

By the other half I presume you mean the Government, whether National, Regional or Local, and the myraid of public servants they employ whose only interest is creating empires and safeguarding their own positions.:p
