Tractor Driving License Category F

Hi There,

Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question, here goes..
A friend of mine has a automatic car License category B Auto, on his license it states he can drive category F tractors, but does not stipulate if these have to be auto. He was wanting to drive a vintage TEF20 with un-synchronized transmission on a road run, would this be legal or would he have to get a manual car license or pass a tractor test in a manual tractor ?
He can drive tractors as he lives on a farm but thats private land.

He's in his 40's not sure it that makes a difference and has only ever drove auto cars on road.

Many Thanks,
Kev.

Thanks for the replies, that good to know as he wants to borrow one of my tractors !! So category F doesn't stipulate gearbox type only category B, so he should be good to go :)

Electric cars don't need gearboxes, so are automatic. As they become more common, I wonder if the licensing system will need a shake up.
To be honest, self driving capability will present the biggest shake-up to not only licensing but ultimately “owner” / “driver” / manufacturer liability in the case of accidents.

Insurance industry is already gearing up for it.

Category H tracklayer licencing has needed a shake up for decades but that hasn't happened. I don't think it ever will but I appreciate that this is a bigger issue than a few Challengers and JD RT series machines on the roads.
