Very pleased with how the winter wheat has established. This was drilled on the 20th November straight into a dense cover crop. The conditions were fairly sticky, and had a couple of heavy showers when drilling, but the drill coped very well. The unique design of the Virkar Dynamic DC coulter with the front turbo cutting disc and the following seeding tine, allows for the crop residue to be cut, and the turbo disc opens a narrow slot breaking away the side of the slot. this disc also works 2cm deeper than the seeding tine. The seeding tines also acts as a row cleaner, it moves all crop residue to each side of the slot. this means that where the seed is to be placed, it has no crop residue meaning great soil to soil contact. The following two press wheels do a fantastic job of closing up the slot. one press wheel is directly over the seed row and the the other is placed to the side of the row to press the soil from the side, this allows for great slot closure. Also being able to adjust the coulter pressure from the cab from 1kg-280kg of coulter pressure allows you to really fine tune the machine, meaning with fields with varying soil types in each run, you can adjust the coulter pressure accordingly, so you only every apply enough pressure to close the slot but not cap it over. The Virkar Dynamic DC really is a machine that since using it on our own farms has transformed the way we go seeding.
