When I was a little girl ( long time ago) my Dad had a butchers shop and also worked as slaughter man in local slaughter house. The owner would not allow any sticks to be used and all cattle spent the night strawed down in a pen. Shushed into slaughter house and no raised voices. Dad passed away in 1985 and used to shudder as cattle were rushed down cattle lorry ramps straight into killing line. It can only be worse now, where they are barely cold before they are cut up. As said, no wonder people are eating less red meat.
