I'm going to be doing some fencing over Winter to split the farm up into a few paddocks. As part of this I'll require more shelter in the form of suitable trees for the location. Trees will mostly be native deciduous like Alder, Rowan, Hawthorn, Downy Birch, and possibly some conifers but I don't like them (acidify the ground and just not keen on the look), and possibly some non native like Sycamore.
After much ruminating on the subject I can't see a practical or cost effective way around protecting the young trees that's better than entirely fencing them off. Fencing out adult sheep is easy, but young lambs and hares will be an issue. So to my question, what sort of wire is generally used to keep those two pests out? I presume it'll be a second wire in addition to the sheep wire. I've previous experience with young lambs removing tree spirals and hares cutting the whips so don't want to waste my time with that again.
