Two "diggers" crash in Scotland

Think it was a 13 ton digger+trailer and fastrac would put it on the limit.but even if not it will not bring them back, if the trailer had brake problem air brakes should have came on and if not plugged in then it is a can of worms

Had to work out why if it had total brake loss , why it did not stop,As if a air pipe goes bang & all the air is lost on a fastrac the brakes come on,Or the only other way would be if a brake disc broke & took the calipitor off braking a brake fluid hose, then it would have no brakes of any kind , will take some sorting out to what went wrong

Handbrake would put trailer air brakes on full, if tractor system failed, if driver could think while panicking and if the trailer had air brakes.

Hand brake on a fastrac, would never stop that if put on when it was moving & if the trailer was on oil brakes with no fail safe oil system on it, it would be a roller coaster out of control, I would go with a broken brake disc if I was a betting man,

I was meaning the switch on the handbrake (that puts the warning light on) puts air-braked trailers on full and will lock all wheels solid.

Can clearly see the air lines still attached to back of fastrac so would appear they were attached, really there is so many mechanical issues that could cause brake failure etc and so many other things that could have contributed to the tragedy we can only surmise and in view of the outcome we should really refrain from that train of thought. I feel for everyone involved especially the fastrac driver as if it has been suggested he was out of control on the hill? that would have been a terrifying experience that no-one should have to go through. Whole thing is so tragic lives taken away in an instant.

13t machines often are pushing 15t, I know a fastrac, low loader, '13t' long carriage machine with blade and a couple of buckets on board is nigh on 30t gross

I don't think he's overweight
This could be something as simple as not plugging the air lines in which would cause trailer fail safe not to work, it's happened twice locally to me one I witnessed but these were hgv's not tractors.
I remember that, the truck belonged to the haulier at the bottom of my valley iirc.

If you dump all of the air out of the trailer brakes its releases the actuators............... disconnecting the air lines will lock the wheels, ripping them off and dumping the air wont.
Chopping a red or yellow air line on a moving tractor/trailer outfit will put the trailer brakes on full.. thats what the air tank is for.

Depends on how airtight the system is but will take over a week then start to roll away, hence you apply the handbrake when dropping a trailer off.
Yep, BUT a failure in the system and no air in the tank results in no trailer brakes, agreed? I'm not speculating on the cause of this accident bit it needs to be known that air brakes or any brakes for that matter are fail safe.
