Two "diggers" crash in Scotland

Seen this on fbook. Looks like trailer broke away from fastrac.
Tragic for those who have lost a family member and will have serious repercussions for those delivering plant with tractors. There may be some who do this legally and safely but I would suggest many are not.

@Chae1 we shift our digger about and it is very easy to get weight on the drawbar just position the machine correctly on trailer until it is evenly weighted. Shifting for solely farm use it is legal to do with red diesel etc as long as weight restrictions etc are adhered to and driven correctly but out with agricultural use it is deemed illegal. But unfortunately rightly or wrongly the fastrac gives the impression of over speeding ??? The other thing about a digger on a trailer when you do lose control it is much more dangerous than a load of grain etc.

Its being said on FB that four people were in the car and at least two people have been killed!

We need to wait and see what the police say caused this accident but it does look like driver error played a large part in it!

And before anyone says they should have been hauling it on a lorry, well there is plenty of truckers that drive on the motorway with 44 ton trucks who drive about two feet behind the lorry in front, if the front lorry does an emergency stop the only place the truck behind will go is into the back of it!

I've only towed one where I worked in past. We don't have a low loader, get somebody in too shift our digger.

It seems according to Facebook ( so may not be correct) that the fastrack was fully legal as hgv and run alongside a fleet of lorrys but suffered brake failure.
I know there are many issues regarding appropiate licence colour of fuel etc but I think we should all remember whatever we set out on road with big or small that it is regularly checked and maintained and has an operator who is suitable for the task, as these things are more likely to make a difference than some of the "grey" rules that we often argue about.
Sad day for those who lost lives and their families and also for the others involved.

Terrible news I feel for everyone involved it really has touched a nerve.
If the trailer broke away why did the check chains not hold it? and if they didn't why on earth didn't the fail safe braking not kick in on the trailer?

Wow this looks real bad! I have moved my digger around for years but stopped when I bought me 16ton digger 3 years ago! This looks so so bad. But I struggle to see why the fastrac is so badly massed up if the trailer came off! But only time will tell I guess! My thoughts go out to all involved!!
