Protest vote backfired?

I think the big shame is the overreaction of the markets. But hey ho thats what they do.

The EU could and should have reformed a lot earlier to keep the recalcitrant more supportive but they chose not to.
Yes but stock market is back over 6000 by 9 am. Its just because they weren't expecting it.

Just need someone with a backbone to negotiate what europe is going to do for us now.

It could be the end of the EU - other countries now asking for a referendum. Let's just hope the saner politicians take up the challenge of running the country and the figurehead crazy ones retire...

I don't regret it at all. Certainly sobering now that we have actually done it. But we have. Look to Norway. They are very happy and prosperous. In my view, the sooner we are weaned of BPS the better.
You cannot look at Norway and believe that is what you will be like now the UK will leave EU. Norway has a small population with one of the highest living standards in the world. The high standard of living had nothing to do with being outside Europe. Norway exports oil and electricity it also owns 5% of the worlds stocks.

why this result?
1 thatchers destruction of industry has come home to roost
2 europe did and has not taken notice of its people who want cooperation but not domination
3 people have totally misunderstood the migrant immigrant situation
4 the london brigade have taken little interest in the midlands and the north
5 a large % of the voters had no idea what the consequences of their actions could well be

True, who would want a high standard of living? That's just madness. Seriously, I think we can look at them as they were told the same horror stories as us back in the 90's and none of it came true. We can certainly look at how they trade with the rest of the world. We have our own assets. We are pretty much the financial center of the world. That's going to be worth more than oil in the future in my opinion.

Sounds like the big German car makers are already on the phone and who can blame them? They are business people and we are a good customer. That's really all there is to it.

So many of us will have voted leave as a protest vote but weren't really expecting this result. I wonder how many will be regretting their decision now? Just two more BPS cheques to go and all that.....
Sorry Dai if you used it as a protest vote but I didn't know what else to say it was much more important than that, I see Wales voted out by a fair bit so it wasn't just your vote that swung it ;)

But do we know what the consequences of staying were? Truly? My reasons were quite simple in the end.

The EU is not transparent enough. Millions died for freedom and democracy. They didn't die so that we could be ruled by 'Commission'.
The EU has not cemented peace in Europe. NATO has. On that subject, the UK is not going to start any wars, any time soon. The risk of us leaving is that less stable countries want out too. That is a worry, I admit.
I've never voted Labour in my life but actually in the end I was convinced by the words of people like Tony Benn and Frank Field. Proper heavyweight politicians, not these new, shiny made up ones.

I feel quite positive this morning. In a few years, we will be back to a proper democracy and I trust the people to make that work. There are so many things we have taken our eye off as it comes down from Europe. Now we will have to think about all those things again. Personally, I think that is quite exciting.
