Best spring barley variety for heavy land

Rather than attempt to grow a third wheat I am opting to grow a couple of fields of spring barley instead.
Any particular varieties that stand out other than Propino/Concerto etc?

Planet is a new high yielding malt variety widely grown in Europe and just getting going here. Don't know about growing it as I'm tied to Propino contract but it is one to look at.(y)

Are you looking for competition for bg or is that not an issue?
I only ask as we grew some propino last year for one customer which was ok but was eclipsed by another customer who had us grow a variety called "chapeau" which I believe is a German variety and on a nullox high nitrogen contract for lager, similar to explorer for Budweiser.
The amount of straw is an issue for following crop unless baled but the yield was impressive and the ground cover in the spring gave superb bg suppression

On heavy ground here. Cant stop Propino going over and planet is even worse. Irina stands a bit better. Careful management of seed number and nitrogen is needed to stop it going south.

I'll believe you.[emoji481][emoji481][emoji481]

Got 300 head of cattle to pass the stuff through ,,,,,, I will leave the malting to those who know what they are doing ,,,,,, the planet yielded 9.25 ton / ha which confused me a bit , usually if we get 6 t / ha we are doing well .
So was it the first cereal in rotation or sludge which changed our luck ,,,,,, certainly pulled the pants down off the winter barley.

That was very good. Both things helped surely? Well done

This year irina stood well, yielded well, but suffered from high screenings. Buyer has advised me to grow old favourite propino or planet. He has a lot of irina bought which is all similar, very likely just the year.
