John Deere 6300You lot done now?
Can we get back to 4cyl deeres?
The second worst tractor i've ever had owt to do with.
Gutless and dubious reliability.

No this 6300 was a dog of a thing. from memory it had A-F on one stick and 1-2-3-R on another with no powershifts or splitter. I think it was supposed to be 90hp but our old Nash 885 pulled better. Ford 7610 knocked it into next week.Gutless? Needed a spanner in the pump. My 6400 could never have been
described as gutless, in its prime was dynod at 130 hp. Went like a rocket.
probably true of the 6100, only 75 hp, and the power quad gearbox does sap a lot of power compared to a simple gearbox.
Now Then..Are they what there cracked up to be?
Main things to watch for?
Anybody got one for sale?
And yes I've Findlay convinced dad that a 4cyl would do[emoji1360]
ProbablyDo you mean in the literal sense?
Now Then..
You'll be looking at quite an elderly tractor which may have done quite a bit. However, there are some good ones around. Of the original 6000 series look for a Powrquad 6400, preferably a later one. The earlier ones had a thinner plate for 3rd & sometimes wore a groove in the hub, all fixable of course. Later ones had a thicker plate.
If you can stretch the budget a bit, look for a 6310 or 6410, much the same but better. Look for a TLS one
As mentioned, the cross shaft for the arms can wear if it's done lots of arm work, again fixable.
We currently have a 6400 in for some oil leaks & service with 12000 hours on and a 6210 SE in for the cross shaft job. Just shows that folk like to keep them going.......
Hey,,,,, how long is a piece of string as they say!!!!How much more would a 10 series with tls be?

Homework for ya
An old, wise farmer once told me where machinery is concerned always buy the best, smartest thing you can afford. If you buy a cheap heap the minute you get it home you will be looking for another one.I've got enough as it is[emoji23]
Would be rough ish with more hour we would be looking at! Will most likely be stripped down in the shed before it does anything at all!

I've bought a few cheap heaps in the past and realised he is right.
I gave £13k for a tidy 10,000 hour 6310 40K powerquad with Aircon @Joe S and havent regretted it. A lovely tractor to use.How much more would a 10 series with tls be?
Good that you're finally looking at Deeres!
But I would say convince your dad to spend the extra money to buy a 6010 series with left hand shuttle and perhaps front suspension and proper 40k transmission.
