JD 4cyl 6000 series, 6300, 6400 etc

Got a 01 6310 premium here and she is a honey only done 4500 hours, never found her lacking In power at all, the biggest problem as with all 4cyl tractors is a lack of weight on banks a rear discharge spreader can push her about a bit

I agree with @sherg about the weight thing, if you're drawing silage or tanking / muck spreading a lot on steep places, the 6 cylinder tractors are better as they are heavier. I've lead silage on some steep places with my 63, and you had to be on the ball with where you aimed at coming down, you can't cheat as much as you can in those situations with a 4 cyl. However, a full set of weights on the front does make up for it to some extent, though not ideal for lots of road travel.

I found the same, the 6400/6600 where i used to work, both on same tyres and had identical hardi commander trailed sprayers, 2700l i think

the 64 was ok with it half full, but wasnt really comfortable and would put up a protest if it was loaded right up, it wasnt overly stable on the road either

that extra little bit of weight in the 66 made all the difference, it was just a nicer tractor to spend the day in, smoother, more stable and the purr of a 6cyl instead of the rattle of the 4 pot

Just need to watch what your doing a bit more! It's not the end of the world, it's not flat about here and we seem to manage fine with 4 cyl carting silage just need to watch a bit more!

I bought my 6400 off "Jack Greens" in the Royal Welsh show back in 1996. Having seen one a few days before on a neighbouring farm (Glyn from Dihewyd) silaging with a Pottinger mex 5 or6 with an 8 tonne trailer in tow, going up and down some very steep slope's . I was so impressed I had to have one! £ 30 K back then.

Can't complain at that!
You said before yours was 130hp guessing it was fiddled with?

All I ever did to the pump was turn the sealed screw on the outside of the injector pump, went back to the main dealer at about 10 years old to fit a power loader, I asked them to dyno it while down there, they wrote on the side of the dash 124hp at 540, 130 hp max . I'm guessing that by some comments on here that their tractors were gutless, that it was a bit of a lucky dip as to how much power JD set their tractors from the factory.
 
My 6410, done about 15000 hrs, it's semi retired now, but when used it will power PTO equipment all day long, but on road haulage seems very sluggish. Is this common with them?
