President Donald Trump Tuesday signed the first in a series of congressional regulatory rollback bills, revoking an Obama-era regulation that required oil and mining companies to disclose their payments to foreign governments.

That regulation, part of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reforms, was strongly opposed by the oil and gas industry -- including Trump's Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, who as head of Exxon Mobil personally lobbied to kill the Securities and Exchange Commission's rule that he said would make it difficult to do business in Russia.

"It's a big deal," Trump said at the signing.

That's a matter of perspective. Oil giants want the ability to hide payments they make to foreign governments, and Republican policymakers agreed to prioritize this as 2017 got underway. Democrats wouldn't agree to the change in the Obama era, but now that the GOP is in a dominant position, the disclosure requirement will not be implemented.
ExxonMobil was no doubt pleased with the president's bill signing yesterday, but for the American mainstream, this isn't "a big deal" at all.

What struck me as interesting, however, is what Trump said at the bill-signing ceremony, which took place in the Oval Office, and which lasted a grant total of two minutes.
transcript:

"This is a big signing, a very important signing. And this is H.J. Resolution 41, disapproving the Securities and Exchange Commission's rule on disclosure of payments by resource extraction issuers. It's a big deal. And I want to thank Speaker Paul Ryan for being here. He's been tremendous. Jeb Hensarling very, very important and really worked hard. Representative Bill Huizenga and all of the friends -- Peter -- all of my friends are up here. And we really appreciate it.
"This is one of many that we've signed, and we have many more left. And we're bringing back jobs big league, we're bringing them back at the plant level; we've bringing them back at the mine level. The energy jobs are coming back."

Show of hands: who believes Trump knows what this bill is and what the legislation does? Based on his comments, the president seems convinced the legislation has something to do with energy-sector jobs, but that's really not the case.
What's more, this keeps happening. Trump was reportedly annoyed with his aides recently when he wasn't fully briefed on an executive order -- after he'd already put his signature on it. Soon after, the president signed an order allowing financial advisors to rip off investors, and by all appearances, he had no idea what his directive was all about.

It's been like the movie "Anchorman": instead of an anchor who'll say anything on the teleprompter in front of him, we have a president who'll sign any document his aides put in front of him.

President Trump on Thursday signed legislation ending a key Obama administration coal mining rule.

The bill quashes the Office of Surface Mining's Stream Protection Rule, a regulation to protect waterways from coal mining waste that officials finalized in December.

The legislation is the second Trump has signed into law ending an Obama-era environmental regulation. On Tuesday, he signed a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution undoing a financial disclosure requirement for energy companies.

Both the mining and financial disclosure bills are the tip of a GOP push to undo a slate of regulations instituted in the closing days of the Obama administration. The House has passed several CRA resolutions, and the Senate has so far sent three of them to President Trump for his signature.

Roger no it s not about jobs read the article I ve attached and the one after. That is use as an excuse by coal and oil companies, Please kindly show me how, not having to declare money given to a foreign government, equates to more jobs?

You are a farmer in Colorado, I understand there are mines there, how will you feel when your land and waters will be polluted by mines'waste?
What about the clean up costs and the health costs?

Come on @Roger Perry even you must recognise this guy is not fit for the job? Even republican senators have serious issues with him
In your opinion he's not fit,it's a good job your opinion counts for nothing over there, what gets me with all this anti trump bull#hit is your so convinced he will make a mess of it let him get on with it and he will be kicked out next time or as most of the political elite are scared stiff that he is doing a good job and they want to sabotage his presidency to keep their gravy train running

Interesting article about coal jobs and misrepresentation of job losses due to clean air act.

WV Center On Budget And Policy: "U.S. Coal Mining Employment Is Much Higher Today Than It Was Over The Last Decade." An analysis of data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics by the nonpartisan West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy found that U.S. coal mining employment is much higher today than it was over the last decade":
While U.S. coal mining employment rose substantially during the first half of the economic recession it lost over 10,000 jobs in 2009 before bouncing back in 2010 and 2011. In May 2012, the industry employed 85,600 compared to 77,200 in December of 2007. However, since the beginning of 2012 the coal mining industry has shed about 1,000 jobs. In spite of these recent jobs losses, U.S. coal mining employment is much higher today than it was over the last decade. In fact, coal mining employment today is higher than at any time between 1999 and 2008.
2011 Underground Mining Jobs At Highest Level Since 1996. According to National Mining Association statistics, total underground and surface coal mining jobs increased by nearly 22% from 2001 to 2011 (67,254 to 81,974), and by nearly 19% if processing plants, independent shops and yards and office jobs are included. In 2011, underground coal mining jobs were at their highest level since 1996. [National Mining Association, August 2012]

UMass Study: EPA Rules Would Result In Net Creation Of Jobs. A study from the University of Massachusetts' Political Economy Research Institute and Ceres projected that between 2010 and 2015, the power sector would invest almost $200 billion in capital investments on pollution controls and new generation capacity to comply with the new Clean Air Act rules, creating an estimated 1.46 million job-years, which are defined as one year of full-time employment. The study further found that job reductions from projected coal plant closures will be "more than" offset by the number of new jobs created. [University of Massachusetts, February 2011]

EPI: Toxics Rule Would Have Positive Net Job Impact. An Economic Policy Institute briefing paper on the EPA's Mercury and Air Toxics Standards projected "job growth spurred by new investments in pollution abatement and control." The report concluded the job impact of the rule "will be modest, but it will be positive." The study specifically found that it would "likely" lead to "the creation of 28,000 to 158,000 jobs between now and 2015." [Economic Policy Institute, 6/14/11]

BLS: Less Than One Percent Of Layoffs Are Attributed To Regulation. In 2011, layoffs caused by governmental regulations and intervention, as measured by initial claimants for unemployment insurance, comprised just over 0.2% of total layoffs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. [Bureau of Labor Statistics, 5/16/12]

Study: Recovery Act And Other Stimulus Measures Saved Around 56,000 Jobs In West Virginia. A study by the West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy found that without the Recovery Act, TARP and "other federal stimulus measures" West Virginia, a state with many coal miners, would have 20,000 additional residents in poverty and 80,000 lost

Excuse me @turbo please do point out anything that I wrote that was not true. Beccause now that is not true, please do refer to any of my posts (do not bring up the picture please, that was explained).
I ve asked you in the past to please rebut anything I wrote as I will gladly appreciate your input. Do not make a statement like that about me without backing it up with evidence. That is undignified from you, if i stated something wrong please prove it.
I m waiting

The thing is @dstudent, you can post all this propaganda BUT people have voted for Trump for their own reasons - which are not because Obama or Democrats treated them kindly.

I don't live in the USA so I won't even attempt to comment on what is correct.

However listening to the Trump press conferences I conclude that some of the Media is extreme.

@wanton dwarf I don t get it, what s the use of this thread if not as an open area for debate. Has he signed those bills or not, is Pruitt a controversial candidate due to his links, proven links with coal and oil company or not? He did send the letter.
I m as critical of the present administration as I ve been of the Obama one, i can assure. Is anything I repoted not true?

The whole media is extreme!! They are all left wing elitists whos dream was a one world FASCIST government power structure. Until "we the people" finally realised they were up to no good and duly voted for Brexit, Trump and very soon Le Penn and probably Germanys AFD as well.
What I fail to understand about the "educated classes" is why couldn't they see what the real agenda of the euro lefties and US Neocons they supported was? Have these people never read or heard of "operation paperclip" ! The Nazi agenda didn't die after the finish of WW2 I can assure you, and it is the politicos who have recently been voted out of power who were the political descendants of those who capitalised on the superior technology and visions the German hierachy had.

Definitely, Rupert Murdoch, Richard Desmond, Paul Dacre etc, all elitists who crave world power and are doing their best to put their billionaire mates in power.
