Think they are all buying in the hope prices will go up...i think the hope will soon run out...

They have all been doing that since the end of Sept,

Unless exports suddenly take off then I think the trade has found its level.

Some of the big fhinshers were buying expensive store lambs back in the autumn as they thought heavy's would be £100 head by now, trade is a long way back from that!

I have said it before, both in the store cattle and the store lambs, far too many older farmers drawing down the farm payment and a pension. It just makes it so difficult for the younger generation of farmers to compete with their buying power.
Too true. The real farmers are looking for a return for their time/capital invested; their competitors around the ring are only looking for smaller losses per hour spent than alternative pastimes (golf etc). Unfortunately grazing store lambs/cattle is an ideal pastime - not so many interested in milking a handful of cows by hand twice a day!

Yes there are some older farmers who have worked hard for what they have got and paid for their pension who most likely know how to make a few quid out of a store animal
its really time the young buggers upped their game

Perhaps you favour euthanasia at the age of 60. Or 70 even?:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Anything on our farm has to make a profit - even me.
If you want to buy, keep sticking your hand up. It's not difficult.

Trade was well up at stirling today, good 41-44kg texels etc near enough 190, even mules and blackies were 170-180. Dunbia was buying a lot which helped the job. Could be Easter buying already.

I deliberately avoided making it a young/old thing, stressing the living/hobby angle. As you say, they may just be shrewder (value their time less?). Regardless, everyone is perfectly entitled to pay what they like - if the lamb/calf breeder gets a bit more, that's not so bad; if they're further subsidising the end-product, does it do anyone any good?

probably not, and I know what you mean,
This has been said about older store buyers before "that they only do it for a hobby" but I think until you have seen their accounts its best to keep quiet, we will all be old one day and may like to buy a few store animals we may even know how to make money from them
