Your confident.
Yep, but I have been thru some very tough personal times in the past 20 years and thus if I could survive that then I will survive post brexit and no subs!
Your confident.
Im not.
Hang on
You agree that voting for Brexit was going to fudge the agricultural industry (and presumably negatively impact your business).
Yet you voted for Brexit anyway because you thought the NFU was somehow going to save you? And now you are surprised the NFU have given up the will to live/fight?
Your logic utterly defies me.
Maybe.Fair enough, arguably for those in the right place at the right time Brexit will bring opportunity to take over from those who fail.
No I want a level playing field, do away with all the red tape BS/ farm assurance etc etc and give us a level playing field and perhaps direct subs can go but until then they will be needed.
Personally I think the only way UK AG will survive post Brexit and no subs on non level playing field is if we take control from farm gate to the shoppers car with regional co-ops across the UK, do away with the AHDB and replace it with a organisation that actually promotes UK produce and its merits to UK shoppers.
Looks like they have already got free trade without Brexit .
People don't always buy the cheapest. Cheapest spuds are bought by the bag but people buy oven ready chips for example.
The more foreign meat of unknown provenance the supermarkets try to sell, the more the demand for my locally grown pasture fed beef rises, where people can see its plenty of space and fresh air, not stuck in a feedlot up to its belly in mud.
Did you really think Brexit was going to get you a level playing field our civil servants loooooove rules and regulations.
The second part of your post I totally agree with, but why didn't you do that anyway / before?
I still think the government will come to their senses and realise that with over 60 million mouths to feed , three times a day, it would be madness to rely on foreign imports, or risk UK ag going bust overnight.
No I assumed that it wouldn't be good for UK AG but I expected the likes of the NFU to stand up and fight for us to limit the damage as much as possible.
I certainly didn't expect them to roll over like a drunk on a street corner on a Sat night ( which is what the NFU are doing ) and give up the fight for UK AG before talks have even started.
Ha ha I always talk sense
Yep I did but I voted out because of the bigger picture, I knew a out win wouldn't be good for UK AG but I never thought the likes of the NFU etc would actually sell us down the river like they seem intent on doing ( as they agree with the NT etc on direct subs going ) when they actually should be standing up and fighting for us!
Just back from pub and a couple of points of Shropshire Gold, so in a hopeful mood. You really need a very strong cup of black coffee!
The ONLY thing the UK Gov wants is food as CHEAP as possible!
We certainly need better promotion of home produced food. We have quality assurance and some of the highest standards in the world yet nobody really ever gets to hear about it, so it all feels a bit pointless. Maybe if DEFRA shifted its resources to promotion of UK food rather than nitpicking over the width of watercourse buffers, we would be in a better place, competitively.

The NFU had a huge campaign to say voting in would be the safer option for farmers. There were no promises of any subs if we left the EU - the only promises were free trade and cheap imports.
You voted out anyway despite the NFUs advice.
Yet now you expect the NFU to try and save you? How do you think their negotiation with government is going to go?
Guy Smith: "Well Theresa, the farmers have all ignored our advice to remain and voted for Brexit."
Theresa Smith: "We'll finally be able to get rid of those pesky subsidies then, and there is plenty of cheap food available on the world market to feed the UK."
Guy Smith: "No no no. They still want to keep their subsidies and definitely don't want free trade."
Theresa May: "So why the feck did they vote for Brexit then?"
Guy Smith: shrugs shoulders...
I totally agree something seriously needs to change in this area and the likes of Laura Ryan ( Head of the AHDB beef and Lamb section ) needs to pull her finger's out on this area and make massive changes, more promotion and less BS like telling us how to read medicine bottles is what needs to happen from the AHDB!
If the above happens we will HAVE to be allowed to use growth promoters/ GM foods and most UK welfare rules/ red tape will have to be thrown in the bin. ( esp if direct subs go )
The bigger picture that disadvantages all UK industry and business you mean? Where is the upside? Perhaps cheap food for the person on the London Clapham omnibus IS the upside.
