Balansa clover

First June ver here with no substantial rain at all, possibly 2 mm in showers. Pasture is not growing and the crops have stopped too. Very small Australian crop unless things change soon.

Had 36mm thus far for june...so far perfect conditions, still ample moisture to almost wet, lease block has water in spots...grass and clover starting to grow...will pic my block tomorrow....if july stays dry im in with a shot...but chemical is choking crap out of it....hoping is starts to wash....

What crops are in here look good....if it goes dry up north then spring crop will get jammed in...barley...some forage oat seed...probably throw some teff in if find the right block for seed.

I have a paddock of stuffed crimson clover too. Sprayed with MCPA and something else to help kill broadleafs. Still some crimson alive, but not enough.
I also have a pivot with corn standing over winter. I spread shaftal on by plane but am struggling to find any plants, just slugs ☹️

Had the Argo out today looking at crops. We found parts of the corn with lots of shaftal, but most was damaged or gone. Found plenty of slugs.

Even though most the shaftal is buggered we are going to spread slug bait the reduce numbers for the next crop. Been told the bait for 55 ha will be $3000, does this sound resenable as I thought it would be less. Going to cost about $950 to have it spread by plane too.

I spread metarex at 4.5 kg ha which is heaps at $10 kg

You bomb your dirt with chem especially pre em...u end up with slugs and snails....

If i coukd get on dirt consider a night time pass with heavy harrow...check again following night to see how much u killed

Im stepping off them chem and bait merry go round...

Teff is some good summer feed...a bloke at blighty has seed

Good video. I went to a field day with Rick Beiber last summer who said almost the same thing, and am trying to do that.

I have vetch, Radish, oats, cereal rye, red clover and crimson clover growing this winter.

This summer I will plant several combinations including corn, sunflowers, milet, soybeans and edimax canola. Graze it a bit and possibly keep the edimax through to harvest after winter.

I am going to plant my surge paddocks with a heap of different stuff...undecided on total brew but must be cheap..will through some turnips in...will use oats barley trit...grazing wheat...balansa...kale...shed scrapings!

Then in my PP it will be 2 clovers...2 grasses..possibly 3..might try get a touch of fescue to carry on in summer a bit...maybe some chicory and kale thrown in for luck

I will strip graze the surge crops and bare them off and plant some teff, rape, millet, oats and peas...1 paddock i will do oats peas vetch for hay.

Then the pp paddocks i might over sow on wide spacings millet and lucerne..not all paddocks...just a couple to see gow that goes for summer feed...then hopefully that winter some lucerne survives in stand...

Havent yet decided how to best handle turnips...

Im in high rainfall and summer rain is okish...so want to try get things growing all year better than the status qou..

My balansa has grown a bit will get some pics....still some small spots to reseed.

Will a
Daikon radish will grow at any time of year. From what I have read I planted mine thicker than I should. In a mix I think 1 kg/ha would be enough.
cow or sheep eat these?

Seed price? From seeding to graze how long? Wet wet dirt?

I see they use for HC as well..also japanese ones like cooler than weather...

I think down here we are missing out...its all ryegrass clover...and rape in Summer...no diversity...

Surely a Daikon radish is going to be little use as a grazing crop? Most of the root drives down through the soil doesn't it, way below where stock can utilise it?:scratchhead:
