Spreading FYM on growing crops

Do any of you spread FYM on growing crops? Cattle out and ready to get sheds emptied. Thinking would save so much time to spread directly on the fields just now. Have wheat, spring oats and spring barley. Any one any experience here? Any specific threats or benefits to be aware of? On which crop of the three available would you spread it?

So disposing of it rather than benefiting.....
Still benefiting. It's still organic matter being added to the land. Last year when I spread it on a stubble field I only ended up covering half of the field before running out so wasn't exactly a precision application either!

We spread a bit onto growing crops but usually chicken Muck or compost types. Heavy Muck I’ve not done and certainly not fresh. You would want to have a horizontal beater machine with spinner decks so it’s chewed up as much as possible.
I've spread straight from the shed before, just not on a growing crop. Our cattle are bedded daily with a bale shredder and the straw is mainly wheat straw from a rotary combine. So the muck is very short and easy to spread. Hardly see it on the ground afterwards. Probably going out today to give it a try!

We spread cattle fym half rate and cambridge roll on freshly sown spring barley. To try to stop sand blowing.
Do you use well rotted stuff so the wet blobs stick we have done that on sugar beet go across rows , and have put poultry litter on barley this spring with Agric hire horizontal and spinning discs , can see to to line where we left part of field to see difference about 2- 1/2 ton acre

I would love it if I could get customers to give it a go around here a bit more. I can’t see why it won’t work at all. The only time we have had an issue is spreading solid digestate onto OSR in the autumn, not realising there was some fresh loads tipped at the Sid and that discoloured the crop a bit but it recovered.

Spread onto 15 acre of s barley this week. About 10t/acre of fym straight of the shed. Spreader didn't like it very much thus needs a new box. Was spreading about 24-28m so had a good overlap on 20m tramlines. With a spinning deck Rolland. Last years trial of spreading on top was 0.5t an acre at least more and 2 bales of straw more.

Tried some today. Just one spreader load on wheat and one on barley. Felt that on the wheat the spreader was crushing a lot or crop when turning, should really have done it a month ago I suppose. Barley it looks a bit scruffy with the muck on top but I'm completely sure in 1 week from now it won't be seen. As long as comes away nicely will do more next year!

you should put it on top of the ploughing before the drill.
