Our 2 funky seed crops last year performed very well, light land North Norfolk yielded nearly 11 Tonnes per Ha and on good Lincolnshire land bang on 11 Tonnes. As you would expect there were some screenings but Bushel weight in the high 60s across both crops. Certainly performed very well in comparison to hybrids.

It’s after wheat as this ground won’t grow a second wheat due to big organic matter as ex pasture , first time growing winter barley here for a long time for that reason really but if it works ok will def grow more , - possibly instead of rape the way that looks this year!! Cheers dh

what are you doing pgr wise on that Will?

Good question.

Two or three fields of Funky, here, among all the usual bits of Volume, Bazooka, Meridian, etc.

Can't go wrong, apparently, better for standing, disease and specific weight than anything other than a really good year for the hybrids and more profit even then 'cos of cheaper seed.

Must be some seriously unforeseen hidden drawback somewhere, we reckoned, and this may possibly be it.

Very difficult to manage in a wet spring.

Bit like Pirate.

When I took that picture on Wednesday it was the first time I’d been in there with the sprayer this year as been too wet so missed t0, sprayed 2lt ccc & 0.25 tempo plus fungicide & trace elements, planning to do lush areas again end next week with more tempo then follow up with terpal or cerone at t2, I know I’ll struggle to keep it up as missed the boat a bit but can’t think of any other options? Cheers dh

I must admit to quite liking it, starting to think about cropping in the “maybe/ don’t know what to do” fields & thinking this could replace a bit of second wheat & prolong the osr gap?

This is a v good field to be fair, in another field we had a bust drain & it’s proved barley doesn’t like wet feet!!

Cheers dh
